Morpho Blue is the lending market protocol at the center of Morpho. Introduced in 2024, it is structured like repo and money markets: floating-rate, variable-term loans, overcollateralized with crypto tokens. Each Morpho Blue market is a non-custodial lending pool with its own collateral asset, borrow asset, and risk parameters. Anyone can create a market. This is the engine behind most Morpho crypto loans.

Isolation is the design choice that answers is Morpho lending safe. Because each market is parameterized on its own, a risky collateral type cannot drain a safer one. Suppliers choose the Morpho lending market they want, instead of depositing into one shared balance sheet. Borrowers open a Morpho loan against the collateral that market accepts, and they pay that market's rate.

Morpho Blue is Morpho DeFi in its simplest form. Morpho vaults allocate across these markets. Morpho Midnight adds fixed-rate term lending beside them. The Morpho protocol keeps the base layer permissionless and readable on-chain, which is why exchanges and institutions use it as credit infrastructure rather than as a single pool.

How a Morpho Blue market works

  1. One collateral, one borrow asset. A market is a pair, plus the risk parameters set when it is created.
  2. Supply the borrow asset if you want yield, or post collateral if you want a Morpho loan.
  3. Read utilization. The interest rate moves with how full the market is.
  4. Sign from your wallet. The position stays non-custodial. The market does not take possession of your keys.
