Morpho - Morpho Blue, lending, and the open credit network
Morpho
Open credit network
What is Morpho? Morpho is an open, blockchain-based credit network that connects people with excess capital to people who need financing. The Morpho protocol does for credit what the internet did for information: it turns a fragmented, intermediary-heavy system into a single connected market anyone can build on. Through Morpho lending, suppliers earn Morpho interest rates on idle assets while borrowers open Morpho loans against collateral. The stack is non-custodial and on-chain, so every position is verifiable.
Whether you come to Morpho earn, to borrow, or to understand what is Morpho crypto, the intent is the same: open, programmable credit. Morpho Blue is the lending market engine. Morpho vaults sit on top of it as curated yield. Morpho Midnight extends the network into fixed-rate term lending. Together they are Morpho finance, and the Morpho company has built them into a network that already holds over $11 billion in deposits.
This article covers what Morpho is, how Morpho Blue works, the role of a Morpho vault, how Morpho loan rates are set, why the Morpho company raised $175M, and how to read the Morpho token. It is the starting point for anyone searching for Morpho crypto, Morpho DeFi, Morpho lending reviews, or Morpho crypto news.
Morpho crypto covers both sides of credit. A Morpho crypto loan is a borrow against collateral in an isolated Morpho Blue market. Morpho earn is the supply side: deposit into a Morpho vault, or into a market directly, and receive Morpho interest rates set by utilization. Lending with Morpho does not pool every asset onto one shared balance sheet. Each market clears on its own. That is why Morpho DeFi is used by institutions and by individuals who want a market they can read.
Explore the protocol
Morpho is more than one lending pool. Each page below is a part of the open credit network, and each has its own page.
- Blue - Morpho Blue, the isolated lending market protocol for floating-rate crypto loans.
- Vaults - Morpho vaults, curated products that allocate deposits across approved markets.
- Borrow - open a Morpho loan against collateral at the market's Morpho loan rate.
- Earn - supply assets and earn Morpho interest rates through markets and vaults.
- Midnight - Morpho Midnight, fixed-rate term lending against traditional assets.
- Rates - how Morpho loan rates and Morpho interest rates are set by utilization.
- Token - the MORPHO token, governance, and where to track the Morpho price.
What Morpho is
Morpho was named for a genus of butterfly. From the beginning the founders wanted to change the shape of credit, not only the shape of one protocol. When the team was first met in 2022, the founders, led by Paul Frambot, still in university, had already hired much of the top blockchain talent in France. Their first product was an on-chain lending optimizer that improved Morpho interest rates by coordinating loans peer-to-peer on top of existing peer-to-pool protocols. That optimizer is the root of what people mean when they ask what is Morpho.
The Morpho company has since grown into a credit network. Morpho TVL is over $11 billion in deposits. It is already used by institutional clients including Bitwise, Galaxy, and Anchorage Digital, by large exchanges such as Coinbase, Kraken, and Binance, and by brands such as Ledger, Trezor, and Bitpanda. The Morpho logo, the butterfly, stands for a credit layer that institutions and individuals both use. If you have searched Morpho crypto news or Morpho news, the through-line is the same: an open network, not a closed lender.
Blue, vaults, and Midnight
In 2024 Morpho introduced Morpho Blue. Morpho Blue is structured like repo and money markets: floating-rate, variable-term loans, overcollateralized with crypto tokens. Each Morpho Blue market is a non-custodial lending pool with its own collateral asset, borrow asset, and risk parameters, and anyone can create a market. This is the engine behind most Morpho crypto loans. Because markets are isolated, one risky market does not contaminate another. Suppliers choose exactly which Morpho lending market they expose capital to.
On top of Morpho Blue, Morpho vaults allocate supplier deposits across a curated set of markets. A Morpho vault is a managed, risk-adjusted position. The vault curator selects which markets to allocate to and in what proportions. Suppliers deposit into the vault to earn a diversified Morpho earn yield without managing each market. Morpho vaults are why Morpho DeFi works for both retail suppliers who want set-and-forget yield and treasuries who want curated exposure.
Morpho Midnight is the next layer. Where Morpho Blue handles floating-rate crypto-token lending, Midnight provides on-chain term lending at fixed rates against traditional assets, with tooling for customizable KYC. Institutions can launch their own lending markets and still share the liquidity and network effects of the Morpho credit network. That is the step that takes Morpho finance from fully collateralized crypto lending toward an open credit network for the internet.
| Layer | What it does |
|---|---|
| Morpho Blue | Isolated floating-rate markets. One collateral asset, one borrow asset, one set of risk parameters. |
| Morpho vaults | Curators allocate deposits across approved Blue markets and set the risk profile. |
| Morpho Midnight | Fixed-rate term lending against traditional assets, with optional KYC tooling. |
Rates, safety, and the raise
Morpho loan rates and Morpho interest rates are market-driven. In Morpho Blue, each market has a utilization-based interest-rate curve. When utilization is high, supply and borrow rates rise to attract suppliers and cool borrowing. When utilization is low, rates fall. The curve is applied per isolated market, so each asset pair clears at its own equilibrium. Borrowers pay the cost of drawing liquidity in that market, not a protocol-wide average. Suppliers earn the rate that real demand for their capital produces.
Is Morpho lending safe? The safety model has three pillars. First, non-custodial design: users keep custody, and the protocol does not hold funds between input and settlement. Second, isolated markets: a single market's risk stays in that market. Third, institutional use: Bitwise, Galaxy, Anchorage Digital, Coinbase, Kraken, and Binance already use Morpho. Morpho lending reviews from those users point to the same properties: the protocol is auditable, the parameters are transparent, and positions are verifiable on-chain.
In June 2026 the Morpho Association announced a $175M round co-led by Paradigm, a16z crypto, and Ribbit, with participation from Apollo Funds, Circle Ventures, VanEck, Ledger Cathay, Variant, Wintermute Ventures, Prelude, IOSG, Hashkey, Mirana, NJJ Capital, SBI Group, Bpifrance, and others. It is one of the larger decentralized-finance rounds to date, and the Morpho company's fourth institutional fundraise since 2021. The stated bet is that banks, asset managers, and pension funds will want exposure to on-chain credit, and that Morpho's open infrastructure is the base layer for that exposure.
- Isolated markets so one collateral type cannot drain another.
- Curated vaults for suppliers who want a risk profile, not a single pool.
- Utilization curves that set Morpho loan rates from supply and demand.
- Non-custodial positions that stay readable on-chain.
How to supply or borrow
- Pick a side. Supply if you want Morpho earn yield. Borrow if you want a Morpho loan against collateral you already hold.
- Pick a market or a vault. A Morpho Blue market is one collateral and one borrow asset. A Morpho vault spreads a deposit across markets a curator has approved.
- Read the rate. Morpho interest rates and Morpho loan rates come from that market's utilization, not from a single protocol average.
- Connect a wallet and sign. Approve the token, then supply or borrow. You keep custody. The position is the on-chain record.
- Monitor utilization. Rates move as the market fills or empties. A vault curator rebalances; a direct supplier watches the market they chose.
For a single isolated market, start on Blue. For a curated yield position, start on Vaults. For a fixed-rate term against traditional assets, read Midnight. The three share one network and solve different credit problems.
The MORPHO token
The Morpho token is the network's governance asset. Many people arrive through Morpho crypto looking for the Morpho coin or the Morpho price. The Morpho token price and Morpho coin price are the same asset on spot markets. Morpho CoinGecko pages are the usual reference for the spot Morpho crypto price. DefiLlama Morpho is the usual reference for Morpho TVL and protocol metrics. Morpho staking and Morpho earn let holders and suppliers take part in yield rather than only watch the Morpho token price.
Morpho stock is not a listing. Morpho is a token, not an equity security, so a search for Morpho stock is a search for the Morpho token. The phrase morph crypto is a common misspelling, or a different project. The Morpho logo and the butterfly mark are the reliable way to tell them apart.
Frequently asked questions
What is Morpho?
Morpho is an open credit network. Morpho Blue is the isolated lending market protocol, Morpho vaults curate yield on top of those markets, and Morpho Midnight adds fixed-rate term lending. Suppliers earn Morpho interest rates. Borrowers open Morpho loans against collateral. The protocol is non-custodial, and deposits are over $11 billion.
What is Morpho Blue?
Morpho Blue is the lending market protocol introduced in 2024. Each market is a non-custodial pool with one collateral asset, one borrow asset, and its own risk parameters. Anyone can create a market. Markets are isolated, so risk in one market stays in that market.
What is a Morpho vault?
A Morpho vault is a curated yield product. A vault curator allocates depositors' capital across approved Morpho Blue markets, with configurable risk parameters. Suppliers deposit once and earn a diversified Morpho earn yield instead of managing every market.
How does Morpho compare to a money market?
Morpho Blue markets are isolated lending engines with their own utilization curves, closer to a repo market than to one shared pool. Morpho vaults stack on top to curate risk and allocate. For a parallel money-market design, see our JustLend DAO guide.
What is the MORPHO token?
MORPHO is the governance token of the Morpho protocol. It is used to vote on parameters and to steer the direction of the network. It is not Morpho stock. The Morpho token price is a crypto price, tracked on aggregators such as CoinGecko, while DefiLlama tracks Morpho TVL.
How are Morpho loan rates set?
Morpho loan rates and Morpho interest rates follow a utilization curve on each Morpho Blue market. High utilization raises supply and borrow rates. Low utilization lowers them. The rate you see is the clearing price of that market, not a protocol-wide average.
Is Morpho lending safe?
The safety case is non-custodial custody, isolated markets, and transparent on-chain parameters. A single market cannot spread its risk across the network. Institutional users including Coinbase, Kraken, Binance, Bitwise, Galaxy, and Anchorage Digital already use the protocol. Morpho lending reviews tend to cite those three properties.
What is Morpho Midnight?
Morpho Midnight is fixed-rate term lending against traditional assets, with tooling for customizable KYC. Institutions can launch their own markets and still use the liquidity and network effects of the Morpho credit network.
What is Morpho crypto?
Morpho crypto is the category for the Morpho protocol: Morpho Blue lending, Morpho vaults, Morpho loans, and the MORPHO token. "Morph crypto" is a common misspelling. The Morpho logo is the butterfly mark.
Where do I check Morpho TVL and the Morpho price?
DefiLlama Morpho is the standard reference for Morpho TVL and protocol metrics. The Morpho token price, also called the Morpho coin price or Morpho crypto price, is tracked on CoinGecko and other spot aggregators. Morpho stock does not exist as an equity listing.
